New Homestead Law

On December 16, 2010 the Governor signed into law a new homestead statute (MGL Chapter 188 ). The new law is thought to better protect consumer and their homes from creditors.  As a result of either declaring a homestead or use of the new automatic homestead many creditors will be unable to seize upon a person's home.

The new law will be effective on March 16, 2011.
