Elizabeth D. Katz Appointed to Springfield Bankruptcy Court

According to a press release released on December 8th, 2016, Chief Judge Jeffrey R. Howard of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has chosen Elizabeth D. Katz to fill the vacancy in United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts in Springfield created by Judge Henry J. Boroff’s retirement. Pending FBI clearance, Attorney Katz is set to be appointed to the bench in early 2017.

After graduating from the University of Vermont with her Bachelor of Arts, Attorney Katz proceeded to receive her Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law in 1994 and has practiced law in the Springfield and Northampton areas for more than 20 years. Currently a partner at Rescia, Katz & Shear, LLP, Attorney Katz focuses her practice primarily on consumer and business bankruptcy matters and has served as counsel to the Chapter 7 Trustee in adversary proceedings in the Districts of Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Having begun her legal career as an assistant district attorney at the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office in Northampton, she would leave in 2007 to become the Chief of the Hampshire County and Franklin County District Courts Divisions. She has concentrated her practice in all areas of bankruptcy law since 2008.
