Anna Maria College abruptly closed after the completion of the Spring 2026 term. The closing appears unexpected and has left students, employees, vendors, contractors and many others suffering financial harm.
On or about June 26, 2026, The Sisters of Saint Ann, Inc. d/b/a Anna Maria College filed for bankruptcy protection at the United States Bankruptcy Court, for the District of Massachusetts. Case number: 26-40758.
Anna Maria has filed for chapter 11 protection. Anna Maria will have to file a plan of reorganization. Students, employees, vendors, contractors and others have a say in the plan of reorganization and may be entitled to funds from the plan.
Anna Maria, through its attorney, recently said that it hopes to sell its real estate which may have enough value to pay 100% of its debt. It is unknown if that will happen.
